ADRIAN'S PICK -
This book is Sigmund Freud's response to the medical community at large, explaining why psychoanalysts should be a seperate discipline to doctors, yet still respected and important to society. I recommend this book to anyone studying the history of psyschoanalysis, or anyone interested in beginning the study of psychoanalysis. This book has great value for historians, beginners, or experienced people alike. There is some underlining and writing in the book, and the price reflects this.
As far as I can tell, this edition is from before 1965, meaning that it doesn't have an ISBN.

SUMMARY -
Written in reaction to an attempt made by the authorities in 1926 to prevent Theodore Reik from practicing psychoanalysis in Vienna because he did not have a medical degree, THE QUESTION OF LAY ANALYSIS is, in the opinion of the editor of this edition, "the very best of [Freud's] shorter general expositions of psycho-analysis. It is not only clear and comprehensive but entertaining, and its dialogue form affords plenty of scope for the lively irony of Freud's writing... The work has, too, the advantage of giving an account of Freud's views in terms belonging to the very latest stage of their development."
The book gave rise to a sharpening of arguments among psycho-analysts and to a series of statements by analysts from various countries-a series brought to an end by Freud himself in the Postscript included in this edition. As lively as the book, the Postscript also gives some details about the development of Freud's interests which are not to be found elsewhere.
The text of the translation is derived from Volume XX of The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud.
