The Republic by Plato
The Republic by Plato

If I had to choose a single philosophical work to recommend to someone... this would probably be it. This is a rather sober book written in Socratic Dialogue. There's some odd, rather obscure numerological sections in the back that are confusing, and more than a few "cancellable" takes by Mr. Plato (through his character of Socrates), but still, I'd recommend this above... nearly anything I can think of. That should say a lot.
This is where that famous "Allegory of The Cave" story comes from that you heard in your high school Humanities Class.
This is a certified Adrian Recommendation.
BOOK SUMMARY
The Republic is a foundational work of Western philosophy in which Plato, through the voice of Socrates, examines justice, the ideal city-state, and the nature of the soul. The dialogue presents the theory of the tripartite soul, the allegory of the cave, and the concept of philosopher-kings. It addresses political philosophy, ethics, education, and metaphysics, aiming to define what a just society and a just individual might be.
